Meet our Church Leadership Team
Overall church responsibility lies with Nigel Powell (Pastor), who is ably supported by Edwin Fletcher (Elder), Sue Boulton, Andy Dawes & Tim Powell (Housegroup leaders), Tracy Nicholls (Worship Team), Joyce Neech (Housegroup & Prophecy Group) Andrea Powell (Children’s ministries) and Joan Betteridge (Admin. & Premises). There are, of course, many other areas of church life and ministry where faithful servants give of their time and resources to make this a vibrant and exciting, local community, church fellowship. Leadership is all about servanthood….and we seek always to follow the example of Jesus, who, although He was God, humbled Himself and became a servant.
Nigel Powell, one of the original founding Elders, came to Christ at the age of 18 and, following three years at the Birmingham Bible Institute, took on his first pastorate, an Assemblies of God Pentecostal Church in Alum Rock, in 1979. Following a house move across the City into Hurst Green, he and his wife, Christine and their young family spent a few years at Brandhall Baptist Church, Oldbury (now Kings Community Church) before the formation of a daughter church in Hurst Green in January 1987. His great passion is worship and being an under-shepherd for Jesus!
Edwin Fletcher, also a founding elder from some 30 years ago, was a deacon at Brandhall before hearing God call him to leave his much loved church to pioneer this new work “just down the road.” However, both are far away from his original Methodist roots in the North East, left many years earlier to come to Brandhall and to teach mathematics at Tividale comp!! Edwin, an accomplished musician, and renowned as one of few remaining church organ players, is a true and faithful servant at heart, giving much of his time to assisting others wherever a need arises.
Church Leaders must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.
